This past weekend, my wife and I were invited to attend Track Day. This is a day when some of our friends up north (Jersey that is) all get together and go to Monmouth County Race Track. The admission is three bucks and there is a community picnic area that all can use. It is byob (which is good as beers started at 6.50) and everyone brings food and drinks. I had never been to a horse race before, which is a surprise to those that knew my uncles. This is a really fun group and we knew we would be in for a good time. One couple there, Max and Christine, met, and were married there. Chris was extremely helpful in showing me how to read the score sheets on the horses and how to place the bets. I did ok for a newbie (19 bucks woho) and generally had a nice day.
Hard liquor is not really allowed there so I brought it in soda bottles and busted out my Tailgator. This is a blender that has a small gas-powered chainsaw engine on it. This toy has been crucial on the beach and other places where one would like a blender drink and there is no power. I give you warning however, it is noisy (it has a bloody chainsaw engine on it!) and will attract all sorts of attention, some you may not want(hence the soda bottles) My wife says it is the mating call of men. When they hear it they come running.
I went with the Frozen Bikini drink (see my Orphan Liquor Bottle post) and they went well, especially when one of us was a winner and wanted to celebrate. This past Sunday wasnt’ t exactly blender drink weather, but it was ok. This got me to thinking about ice cream drinks. Haven’t heard much about them in a while. Most are tiki based but still, adult milk shakes, who doesn’t like that? So here we go, blender drinks that take ice cream;
THE ALOHA
1 oz dark rum
1 oz Myer’s rum cream (I have not seen this available in long while so substitute 1/2 oz Myer’s and 1/2 oz heavy cream)
2 oz orange juice
2 oz pineapple juice
1 oz coconut syrup(this is a tricky one, I have used Coco Lopez as well as Tropicana Naked coconut Water, it takes some experimenting)
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
1/2 scoop of ice
Blend the bejesus out of everything and serve in a chilled goblet or hurricane glass if you actually have those. Garnish with a huge pineapple wedge. This one sounds like a huge pain in the ass, but it is worth it. One of the more refreshing ones.
CHOCOLATE BLACK RUSSIAN
1 1/2 oz Kahlua
1 oz vodka
1-2 scoops of chocolate ice cream
a tiny scoop of ice
Blend until smooth pour into a chilled glass.
GOING BANANAS
1 1/2 oz banana liquor (this could be our old friend 99 bananas or creme de banana)
1/2 oz spiced rum
1/2 oz white creme de cacao
1 tsp vanilla
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
3 oz crushed ice
1/2 banana
blend, blend, blend, and then pour into a chilled goblet and if you are really getting your tiki on float a teaspoon of flavored rum on top. This is a frozen drink that can really sneak up on you and really make you bananas.
HONG KONG SUNDAY
1 oz Galliano
1/2 oz Cointreau
1 scoop of orange sherbet
This sounds disgusting, but is quite tasty. Blend, pour chill yeah, yeah, yeah.
MUD AVALANCHE
1 oz vodka
1 oz Kahlua
1 oz Baily’s
1 scoop of coffee ice cream
I will give you one guess on what you are supposed to do.
SLIPPERY MONKEY
3/4 oz vodka
3/4 oz coconut rum
3/4 oz coffee liquor
3/4 oz creme de banana
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
3 oz crushed ice
Blend until smooth, pour into a chilled hurricane glass and garnish with a cherry. This is the best one, trust me.
THE STINGER
1 1/2 oz brandy (real brandy not blackberry brandy or any of that jazz)
1/2 oz white creme de menthe
1/2 scoop vanilla ice cream
3 oz crushed ice
Ok this is the most sophisticated ice cream drink out of all of them, but quite good if you can stand to pour your brandy into a blender. Cheers.

Serrano gin; Max took ur advice to make a bloody mary with the serrano pepper gin. being he doesn’t really care for bloody marys here is his recipe.
Spicy V8
Serrano Gin
Fresh cilantro
Red onion
Salt & Pepper
lime Juice.
He says it’s like drinking spicy salsa.
